Brantford Police seize more than $1 million in illicit drugs

Over $1 million in illicit drugs have been taken off the streets following police searches at locations in Brantford, Brant County and North York.

A 32-year-old Brantford man is in custody after police seized almost $1 million in illicit drugs on Friday, January 26.

A drug trafficking investigation launched in January 2024 by the Brantford Police Service Tactical Intelligence Generated Enforcement and Response Unit (TIGER) and the High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) resulted in four warrants being granted and executed.

Assisted by the BPS Emergency Response Team, warrants were executed on Henry Street, Grand River Avenue, and Colborne Street West, and a vehicle.

The total estimated street value of the seized illicit drugs is $971,297 and includes:

–       Approximately 72 .7 kilograms of dried cannabis valued at $727,000.

–       Approximately 6,498 grams of suspected hashish valued at $129,960.

–       Approximately 972.4 grams of suspected cocaine valued at $97,240.

–       Approximately 516 grams of suspected MDMA (Ecstasy) valued at $10,330.

–       Approximately 452.7 grams of suspected psilocybin valued at $4,527.

–       Approximately 450 packages of cannabis oil valued at $2,250.

Packaging materials, a digital scale, Canadian currency, and a stun gun were also seized.

The accused was held for bail and is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession for the purpose of distribution, and possession of a prohibited device.

On Tuesday,  the Brantford Police High Enforcement Action Team led a multi-jurisdictional investigation that resulted in the seizure of $110,720 in illicit drugs.

Called Project Katoomba, the investigation began in November 2023 with a focus on the distribution of large quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl in southwestern Ontario.

Police were given a judicial authorization to search a vehicle and residences in both North York and Paris.

Drugs and paraphernalia seized include:

–       Approximately 476.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine with a street value estimated at $47,680

–       Approximately 186.4 grams of suspected fentanyl valued at $37,280

–       Approximately 257.6 grams of suspected cocaine valued at $25,750

–       Canadian currency, drug packaging materials, cutting agents, scales, and a hydraulic press

A 32-year-old male from North York has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl; possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine; and possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine.

The accused was held for bail.

A collaboration of policing partners including Toronto Police Service and Chatham-Kent Police Service, such arrests improve community safety by reducing the presence of illegal substances and the violence that is involved in its trade.
