A dramatic $37.5-million renovation of Casino Brantford is progressing steadily, on schedule and is already prompting "rave reviews" from customers, casino general manager Grant Darling said Friday.
"Everything's going well. I'm extremely happy," he said, adding that the end result will be a "friendlier environment" for casino patrons.
Phase 4 of a six-phase project is now underway and will involve the creation of a new Winner's Circle service counter at the top of the main escalator, as well as a new bar with a grab-and-go fast-food restaurant, Darling said.
The new bar will become the main bar/beverage area for the entire facility and the grab-and-go menu will offer lighter fare such as sandwiches and snacks for patrons wishing a quick bite. A small area of about 10 two-seat tables also will be included in the new snack area.
It is expected that this phase of construction will be finished by mid-September.
The fall will bring the beginning of the final two major phases of the project, Darling said.
Construction upstairs will see the complete demolition of the current bar and washroom area to open up the gaming floor.
On the main floor, construction will involve a complete renovation of the kitchen, the main restaurant and the main lobby.
In addition, both existing escalators will be replaced and a third will be added.
Most striking and remarkable for patrons of the casino will be the makeover of the main lobby, including the installation of a two-storey indoor water wall feature, Darling said.
When ground floor renovations begin, the main floor entrance to the casino will be temporarily closed and a new entrance will be created to serve during the construction.
The first three phases of the project, now complete, involved increasing gaming and office space, the construction of a new poker room, and the renovation of the table games area.
Project plans also include upgraded plumbing, new carpeting, new furniture, improvements to the casino's recycling system, energy-efficient appliances and improved facilities for employees.
The entire renovation project is expected to be finished in spring 2011.
